Dutch side Ajax have confirmed negotiations have begun with Real Madrid over the possible transfer of striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in January.
The Holland international has been linked with a big-money move to the Bernabeu Stadium since incumbent goal-poacher and countryman Ruud van Nistelrooy suffered a season-ending injury in October.
And now, Ajax have confirmed they are looking at selling Huntelaar - who has long been a transfer target for several Premier League clubs - to the Spanish champions.
A statement from the club read: "Ajax are in talks with Real Madrid over the possible sale of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to the Spanish club.
"However no deal has been agreed at the moment."
If Huntelaar seals a move to Real he will join several of his countrymen on the club's books - including Van Nistelrooy, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Royston Drenthe and Arjen Robben.
