Armstrong confirmed in Tour de France lineup It has been confirmed that seven-time former winner Lance Armstrong will ride for the Astana team in the 2009 Tour de France.
Armstrong, 37, has been tight-lipped over officially announcing his participation in the gruelling event next summer, after making an initial statement earlier this year - via his Lance Armstrong Foundation website - that he was looking to come back.
However, on their team website today Astana have confirmed Armstrong on their roster for 2009 alongside fellow potential team leader Alberto Contador, who has joined from Discovery Channel.
The Spaniard was crowned champion in 2007 and is among the favourites to take the crown this year.
However, he is likely to face competition from Armstrong for the coveted ride as team leader when the race gets underway in Monaco on July 4th.
Armstrong has been absent from Le Tour since his last victory in 2005, and will begin his preparations to rejoin the peloton by competing in Australia's Tour Down Under in January.
