City "lack mentality of champions", claims Robinho Manchester City forward Robinho has called on his team-mates to rid themselves of their 'small-side mentality' and aim for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
The £32.4 million club-record signing from Real Madrid has criticised the City players, saying they "lack the mentality of champions" that could see them competing at the top of the table.
"They are content with just finishing fifth or sixth," he said.
"They are content with little, thinking just a draw might be good enough. I have learnt that being second is worthless so I want to inspire a winning mentality.
"You can only be content with winning. You need to want to beat Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.
"Maybe I have changed this a bit but now City have a project to become big, the mentality has to change."
Manager Mark Hughes is expected to be handed a substantial budget for players in the January transfer window, with several top names already being heavily linked to the Eastlands outfit.
However, Robinho believes the quality of player is already present and it is the psychology of the squad that needs addressing.
"City have good players but the mentality of a small side," the 24-year-old added.
