British Olympic gold medallist James DeGale will turn professional in 2009 after signing a two-year deal with promoter Frank Warren.
The 22-year-old has agreed terms on a reported £1.5 million contract with Warren's Sports Network company and is set to make his professional debut next year.
DeGale shot to fame by winning middleweight gold at the Beijing Olympics in the summer.
And although he has been considering staying as an amateur in order to compete on home soil at the London Games in 2012, the lure of a lucrative professional purse has apparently proved too alluring for DeGale.
In moving from amateur Olympic status into professional boxing, the Londoner is hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Briton Lennox Lewis, who forged a successful pro career off the back of an Olympic gold medal.
