Business Park Receives Jobs Boost
A business park is to recieve up to 5,000 news jobs thanks to a new development by retailers Tesco.
Plans to bring more than 5,000 new jobs to the Humber region have been bolstered by a proposed Tesco depot.
The supermarket giant has announced ambitions for a major distribution depot on the 310-acre Centreport Business Park near Goole, which would employ 1,000 people from the Hull and East Riding area.
"This is excellent news for the economy of Goole and the Humber area, with an estimated one-and-a-half jobs created for every job at Centreport," said Simon Clarke, development director behind the project.
"These are quality jobs, which will provide sustainable employment for people in the area," he added. "The positive effect will be seen on the high street, where more money will be spent. This is a win-win situation for Goole and the surrounding area."
East Riding council will decide whether to grant planning permission for the proposed depot this autumn and, if approved, it could be completed by the end of 2007.
Councillors hope that the Centreport Business Park will create at least 5,000 jobs, which would make it a major source of employment in the region.
