IT Move Takes Jobs With It
Although many IT jobs are London-based, an increasing number of IT companies are considering leaving the capital, promising more opportunities in the industry in other parts of the country.
According to industry observers, an increased demand for IT services and support means that more money is being poured into the sector, with a number of companies saying that a move out of London would be desirable.
"At the moment there is a very strong focus on regional investment, a lot in Leeds, Newcastle and Manchester."
A big move in business-to-business IT services is also expected, with a dispersal of big organisations likely to take IT jobs with them.
Both the BBC and the civil service – both traditionally London-based – are in the process of moving out.
Currently, E-Skills UK estimates that around 38 per cent of the UK's entire IT workforce is based either in London or the south-east, with many areas of the north of England underrepresented.
