SMEs Bringing Strong IT Job Prospects

The IT&C sector looks set to see 1.5 million jobs added over the next four years, mainly thanks to small and medium-sized companies, according to a new report.

Jobseekers with information technology and communication (IT&C) skills should find plenty of positions available in the next few years as new figures show more than a million new roles are set to be created in the sector across Europe.

Some 1.5 million new places are expected to be created in the IT&C sector by 2010 – especially by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – according to a report by industry analysts IDC.

Around 120 million people work for the 22 million SMEs estimated to be in business across Europe, bringing in nearly 60 per cent of pan-European gross domestic product.

The report was released as 'SME Innovation Day' was held in Brussels to discuss challenges and opportunities that small & medium business entrepreneurs face across Europe.

"If SMEs can be stimulated into adopting new technologies more rapidly, and creating innovative products more competitively, Europe's position as a leading player in the global economy can be assured," claimed the report.

If new positions predicted by the report come to fruition, European governments would enjoy around £96 billion in new tax revenues.
