Chris Moyles gets his own TV show

With millions of British households currently strapped for cash and the cold winter months now starting to kick in, television bosses are rolling out the big guns in the TV guides for what they anticipate could be a massive spike in viewer numbers in the run-up to Christmas.

And, according to those wielding the power at Channel 4, they don't come any bigger than motor-mouth DJ Chris Moyles, who has been awarded with his own light-entertainment show.

Somewhat unimaginatively titled 'Chris Moyles' Quiz Night', the new format will see the Yorkshireman face off against three different famous faces each week, answering questions set by a celebrity quizmaster.

Though the producers have also promised that the show will feature a healthy amount of "banter" and "chat" between the hosts and his guests, seeing as Moyles will be offering up his own possessions as prizes for the winners - while the losers will be required to sing a song not of their own choosing on natonal television - it seems likely that the format will bring out his competitive side.

Commenting on the BBC Radio 1 DJ's Channel 4 debut, Channel 4's head of entertainment Andrew Newman commented: "Chris Moyles must be the biggest star in Britain without his own TV show and we're very pleased he has decided to change that.

"In 'Chris Moyles' Quiz Night' we'll be making the most of his irreverence, wit, knowledge of pop culture and competitiveness."

Moyles added: "I'm very excited to be signing for Channel 4... especially as no one else offered me any work."

At the same time, Channel 4 will also be looking to repeat last year's success with a new season of 'The Great British Food Fight'.

As with 2007, the format will dominate the evening TV guides, featuring new shows from some of the biggest celebrity chefs, including Jamie Oliver, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Heston Blumenthal.

Over the course of the winter, former Etonian Fearnley-Whittingstall will carry on his crusade to promote free-range chickens, while award-winning culinary innovator Blumenthal will attempt to turn around the fortunes of roadside restaurant chain Little Chef in his 'Big Chef, Little Chef' show.

Also set to feature in the TV guides for Channel 4 this winter is an ambitious eight-part series into Christianity, drama 'Red Riding', starring, among others, Sean Bean, Warren Clarke and David Morrissey and Andrew Garfield, while the return of 'Skins' and US import 'Dirty Sexy Money' have also been confirmed.
