Classic Alan Partridge moments

Top Tips

Alan Partridge burst onto British screens as the bumbling sports correspondent in Chris Morris’ surreal but innovative comedy ‘The Day Today’ back in 1994. Since then the comic alter ego of Steve Coogan has proceeded to take on a life of his own in various BBC programmes. Initially starring in his chat show ‘Knowing me, knowing you.....with Alan Partridge’, the comic creation later returned in the series that followed the latter part of his career ‘I’m Alan Partridge’.

Here we count down his most memorable moments as the bumbling television/radio personality.

  1. The Second Series: In a desperate attempt to obtain a second series of his chat show ‘Knowing me, knowing you ......with Alan Partridge’; Alan goes out for lunch with the BBC’s Head of Comedy. When informed that he would not be granted a second series Alan blurts out a series of wacky and unrealistic titles for potential comedy programmes as he struggles to come to terms with the news. Eventually he attacks the Head of Comedy with a large block of cheese and departs the building brandishing the cheese as he runs out. The scene highlights all the best comic talents of Partridge as he desperately tries to cling on to the fame he has experienced, but agonisingly remains on the sidelines yet again.
  2. The Bond Fiasco: After Alan’s faithful but downtrodden assistant Lynne spills Sunny Delight over his collection of James Bond films he fails to take the news well. As the extended cast are gathered in Alan’s camper van incorrectly discussing the starting credits from ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ Alan can take no more and screams “STOP GETTING BOND WRONG.” He then outlines in detail the exact opening sequence in a fit of manic exasperation. Classic Partridge!
  3. The infamous journey to Dundee: Inconsolable at his failure to secure and second series of his chat show as well as the breakdown of his marriage, Alan drives to Dundee in his bare feet. He also gorges himself on chocolate gaining several pounds in the process. This particular breakdown caused the starting point for the second series of ‘I’m Alan Partridge’. It was also the inspiration for his autobiography ‘Bouncing Back’ where he charts his return to the spotlight after a troubled period in his private life.
