Ramsay to face biggest fears in India

Britain's favourite celebrity chef has been signed up for a new TV challenge which will make trying to turn greasy American diners into top-class restaurants look like a walk in the park.

Since coming to prominence in the TV guides, the chef has never shied away from criticising vegetarianism, with non meat-eaters having borne the brunt of his sharp tongue on more than one occasion.

As such, it's hardly a surprise that producers have decided it would be a good idea to see how the committed carnivore gets on when deprived of his regular meaty fixes, with the forthcoming show 'Gordon's Great Escape' set to follow Ramsay as he embarks on a vegetarian exploration of India.

As well as visiting the Royal Palace in Rajasthan, he will also be seen having his eye opened up to the lives of people living in a Mumbai slum as well as working with cooks in a cross-country train pantry car.

Liam Humphreys said: "It will take him well out of his comfort zone - a genuine busman's holiday in which he'll work his way through the stunning scenery, go to dangerous extremes in pursuit of ingredients, and recharge his culinary batteries in the process."

However, while Ramsay may think he has it tough, his culinary sacrifices will be as nothing next to the pain the next set of contestants on the BBC's 'Total Wipeout' are likely to go through.

Due to be presented once again by 'Top Gear' star Richard Hammond, the new series of the outdoor show will include two celebrity-only episodes, which will see B and C-listers tackle a variety of challenges, including a giant obstacle course in rural Argentina.

BBC controller of entertainment commissioning Mark Linsey explained that the show was being brought back after receiving a warm reception on its first runout at the start of this year.

"The show was a huge hit with our audience and has cemented itself as a key part of our Saturday night entertainment line-up, and further highlights our commitment to offer viewers a varied portfolio of family entertainment shows throughout the year," he said.

This latest addition to the UK TV guides is set to hit the small screens at the start of the summer.
