Ferrari and McLaren set fastest laps during Friday practice
Ferrari and McLaren shared the fastest laps during the Friday practice sessions ahead of Sunday's British grand prix at Silverstone.
Felipe Massa was quickest for Ferrari in the first session before he crashed going into Stowe corner, while McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen set the pace in the second session.
Home favourite Lewis Hamilton was third quickest in both sessions while defending Formula One world champion, Kimi Raikonen, was fourth and 12th fastest in each session.
Massa set the fastest lap of the day in the morning - at one minute 19.575 seconds but was just 0.012secs quicker than Kovalainen, while Hamilton trailed his team-mate by 0.036secs.
The Brazilian was lucky to escape unharmed when his Ferrari hit the tyre wall at Stowe at 180mph, however the crash did appear to impact the effectiveness of the Italian team in the afternoon session as they fell down the field.
Hamilton hopes to close the ten-point gap between himself and Massa in the drivers' championship at his home grand prix this weekend and was pleased to have been near the top of the time sheets all day.
He said: "Into the afternoon, the car felt increasingly consistent, and I feel we've got a good benchmark for the weekend ahead."
Robert Kubica, who is second in the drivers' championship was fifth quickest in the morning session, although he was nearly a full second slower than Massa.
In the afternoon session both Red Bull's impressed with Mark Webber achieving the second quickest time while team-mate David Coulthard was fourth fastest.
