AA Commits to DOC Coverage

The AA has reiterated its commitment to providing comprehensive motor insurance, pledging to retain the "Driving Other Cars" (DOC) feature of its policies.

Under the terms of the DOC policy drivers can assume basic coverage if they have to take control of a car for emergency purposes.

Thus, for example, if someone suffered an accident and was unable to drive their car, a friend could take the wheel with some insurance protection.

Some firms have ditched the policy after suggestions that it was misused, but the AA argues that it is simply a matter of educating the consumers.

"It is the view of AA Insurance that the industry can and should be better at explaining its insurance cover," the firm said in a statement.

"Customers should be made aware that DOC is for emergency purposes and only extends cover to another insured vehicle (not an otherwise uninsured vehicle)."

The AA is one of Britain's largest motor insurers.
