Adventurers Failing To Buy Insurance

Travellers planning action and adventure on holiday are being advised to take out suitable insurance to cover any accidents.

Millions of adventure holidaymakers are planning action-packed activities abroad without crucial travel insurance, according to one provider.

Figures from AXA reveal that around 16 per cent of people, 2.24 million, taking part in activities such as scuba diving and horse riding on their holidays this year will not have travel insurance.

Almost a fifth of travellers intend to cycle, trek or go horse riding abroad without any insurance, 13 per cent will risk water sports and ten per cent will have a go at kayaking without any cover.

"Travel insurance is a necessity for anyone holidaying abroad, especially if you plan to take part in any adventure activities," said Pat Brady, travel insurance manager at AXA Insurance.

"If you are injured during these and need medical treatment, your bill could run into thousands of pounds.

"Travel insurance does not have to be expensive, and it should help ensure that if you do encounter problems on holiday, the disruption and cost is kept to a minimum."
