Cost Of Under-Used New Gadgets
Billions of pounds worth of household appliances and electronic gadgets are cluttering up Britons' cupboards as consumers make impulse purchases on items which are only used a couple of times.
Britons spend around £2.5 billion on spur-of-the moment gadgets that soon start to collect dust in cupboards after the initial excitement of the first few uses, according to new research.
Consumers spend less than a month using household appliances such as fondue sets, ice cream makers and toasted sandwich makers before they abandon them for newer gadgets, claims price comparison website PriceRunner.
When 'cost per use' is considered ice cream makers are the most expensive toys adding up to £19.48 per use compared with the humble kettle which costs a very economical 5p per boil.
"If you are thinking of buying a new gadget, such as a satellite navigation system, then despite being quite expensive the usage is constant therefore it is a good investment," said Mattias Berg from PriceRunner.
