Economic Growth Picking Up

The UK's economic growth is picking up, according to the latest figures.

Projections from the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) suggest that growth in the three months to August was up by 0.5 per cent on the previous three months.

The NIESR said that following a period of relative weakness the growth trend had now resumed.

"This does not suggest another interest rate cut is imminent," the think tank said.

The Bank of England cut the base rate of interest last month following a slowdown in consumer spending.

Recent inflation figures are however, expected to put off another cut until next year.
