Energy Price Hike From EDF Energy
Electricity and gas bills are on the rise once more as another supplier hikes their prices.
EDF Energy customers will pay more for their gas and electricity when prices are hiked in mid-March.
Gas bills will jump by 14.7 per cent and electricity bills will increase by 4.7 per cent for the 4.7 million homes supplied by London Energy, Seeboard Energy and SWEB Energy, according to uSwitch.
But the 300,000 EDF Energy customers who have capped or fixed plans will not be affected by the price increases. The internet based tariff will also remain the same.
Last year, EDF Energy increased gas prices by 25 per cent and electricity by 19 per cent.
Alan Tattersall, director of home services at uSwitch.com, said: "Consumers should look at the small print and shop around using an independent comparison service to find a deal that is best for their particular needs.
"The message for people who are struggling to pay their gas or electricity bills couldn’t be simpler: review your energy supplier to ensure that you are getting the best possible deal, and can therefore stay warm for longer; and speak to your supplier to find out about any additional benefits that they offer to vulnerable customers.
"Anyone who has yet to switch can still save themselves up to £170 a year by changing supplier."
Some 800,000 pensioners already live below the poverty line - in which ten per cent or more of income is spent on energy bills but uSwitch warns that another 50,000 could now find themselves in the same situation.
