More People Banking Round the Clock

Top Tips

As many small businesses now work round the clock, more people are doing their internet banking in the early hours of the morning, a leading bank claims.

HSBC says that more than 1,500 business customers log on between 11 at night and six in the morning every weekday night. The busiest period is between 11 pm and midnight with numbers dropping to their lowest between three and four in the morning.

By seven in the morning, the number of people logged on has increased by 35 per cent on night-time figures. Most people use the system to view their statements, balance enquiries and create payments.

Simon Wainwright, head of business banking at HSBC said that a 24 hour culture meant that people are working longer into the night.

"More UK employees work over 45 hours a week than in any other part of Europe, whilst changing family trends mean that the traditional nine-to-five day, five days a week is fast disappearing.

"Businesses are taking advantage of the internet to respond to the 24-hour economy. Businesses that bank online can respond quickly to customer demand, move quickly to capitalise on market opportunities and keep direct control of their cash flow," he added.
