Save Money on Bills Whilst Helping the Environment

Energy-aware households across the country stand to make big savings on their winter bills in just a few simple steps, the Energy Saving Trust claims.

Filling cavity walls can save as much as £120 a year whilst adequate loft insulation can reduce heat loss by 32 per cent and cut heating bills by up to a third. That equates to around £170 a year.

Turning off TVs, computers and DVD players instead of simply putting them on standby can save each household in the UK around 1.3 per cent off their energy bills every year. Across the country, this could add up to as much as £163 million a year.

Switching to an energy-saving light bulb will use around a quarter of the electricity and will last for 12 times longer. This can save up to £78 over the lifespan of one bulb.

If homes start getting too warm, turning down the thermostat by 1°C instead of opening windows will cut heating bills by ten per cant or around £30 a year.

By putting these simple steps into practice, homeowners can save up to 20 per cent on bills which could equate to £250 a year, as well as doing their own small bit to help the environment.
