Varying Cost Of Mobile Video Messages

Consumers planning to capture fun at summer festivals using mobile phone picture messaging and videos are being advised to shop around for the most competitive deal, according to new industry research

Britons hoping to enjoy summer music festivals and share the experience with friends and family via mobile phone picture messaging are advised to find the right deal first, according to a price comparison site.

Tempting as it is to snap happy images at special events, just one video message send from people partying at T in the Park, V and Leeds festivals could cost Brits a combined £159,000 (using Vodafone at 60p a message), claims moneysupermarket.com.

If the same group of revellers send their video message with O2 it would total around £92,750 – a saving of £66,250 for O2 contract customers.

A picture message on contract can range from 20p with T-Mobile to 25p from O2, Orange, 3 and 36p with Vodafone, Video messages range from 25p at O2, up to 50p at Orange and 3 and 60p at Vodafone.

And it is not only the cost of sending messages in the UK that should concern consumers, explained Robert Kenley from moneysupermarket.com.

"Consumers are often caught out when using their phone abroad, so it is essential for festival-goers to consider the costs before jetting off to dance the night away on foreign shores.

"By being savvy and shopping around, consumers can save themselves a packet, and not worrying how much it costs means festival-goers can concentrate on getting that all important picture."
