How to Get Great Hair
Have you ever wondered what it would take it to get a great head of healthy hair? Well it’s simple if you follow a few basic rules.
Know How
Like any other part of the human body that is not a living tissue it might seem difficult to know how to feed it the right way. As if you didn’t know healthy hair is born from the nutrients that you feed yourself with. Just because hair is dead it doesn’t mean that the scalp is too, so to maintain it the scalp has to be fed and have an active blood circulation.
What to Eat
The right nutrients for hair health include a good balance of the following:
- Vitamins
- Minerals
- Fatty Acids
- Amino Acids
Vitamins
Vitamins such as A, D, E, H (biotin) can be found in dark leafy vegetables, carrots, broccoli. The B vitamins such as vitamins B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), B6 and B12 can be found in whole grains, red meats, eggs and more.
Minerals
Minerals such as zinc can be found in beans, whole grains, seeds. Selenium is found in seafood and liver, manganese can be found in grains and cereals. Whilst phosphorus is present in meat and dairy products, iron is found in meat, fish, leafy green vegetables and calcium is present in dairy products. All of these minerals are vital minerals for hair health.
Fatty Acids
Essential fatty acids are usually derived from the oil of cold water fish such as herring and cod and from the oil of plants such as evening primrose or flaxseed. They help in the synthesis of hair cells.
Amino Acids
These are the building blocks that make up proteins, in particular keratin that makes up hair. Twenty amino acids are needed to build the various proteins used in the growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues. Eleven of these amino acids can be made by the body itself, while the other nine (called essential amino acids) must come from the diet. For your hair and skin to look its best, make sure you're getting enough protein everyday. This is available through animal products such as chicken, meat and fish.
Outside Help
Once you have dealt with what sort of nutrients you need for healthy hair, you must learn to master the things that will help it on the outside. This includes washing, conditioning, brushing, drying and styling.
Top Tips
- To ensure good hair health you must take care that any products that are used are as gentle as possible, but you have to make sure that they are effective for use and are of the right kind for your hair type. For example, it is no good using a mild shampoo that will not clean the hair.
- You must know your hair type and understand how to treat it with the right hair products for it. So when choosing a shampoo or conditioner it is important that the hair and scalp are not stripped of moisture.
- When brushing hair you must be careful not to be too harsh especially when it’s wet otherwise it will tear. Use a wide toothed comb and not a hair brush.
- To keep hair strong, try not to over style it and overheat it with hair dryers and curling tongs.
