Holiday In Rome: Visit The First Film Festival

Rome is set to host its first ever film festival, which is being promoted as an alternative to the famous Venice festival.

Taking place between October 13th and 21st, the Cinema Festa Internazionale Di Roma will feature Hollywood heavyweights such as Sean Connery and Nicole Kidman.

Eager to distance itself from the Venice Film Festival, organisers told Ansa: "Venice focuses on an excellent selection of films. Instead, here we'll be presenting lots of good movies but above all, we want to give the public an all-round, broad cinema experience complete with shows, books and music."

The line-up will include Italian drama A Casa Nostra (Our Home) by Francesca Comencini and Gardens in Autumn by acclaimed Georgian moviemaker Otar Iosseliani .

In addition, Nicole Kidman will open the event with the world premiere of her latest film Fur, based on the life of photographer Diane Arbus.

Italy's Monica Bellucci will be present for the premiere of N: Napoleon and Me, and Sean Connery will receive the festival's first career achievement award.

Other major premieres include Martin Scorsese's The Departed, a crime thriller featuring Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon.

Locations all over Rome and the Lazio region will be chosen for events during and after the festival.
