Ibiza holiday

Celebrities and normal holidaymakers alike seem to never get tired with this Spanish island.

The Spanish island of Ibiza seemingly has it all - sun, sand and bags of celebrity. Each year tabloid photographers snap Kate Moss relaxing on a boat off Ibiza's coast, or Jade Jagger leaving a glitzy bar with some equally glamorous company.

Whether it is the island's hot climes or vibrant nightlife that attracts them remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: sun worshippers and dance music fans alike who have been flocking to Ibiza for over a decade have no intention of stopping now.

But, for those who wish to find it, there is more to Ibiza that scantily dressed clubbers downing shots and nursing their hangovers in trendy cafes the next morning/afternoon.

Off the beaton track, Ibiza is one of Spain's most beautiful islands, boasting secluded beaches, wonderful viewpoints and a countryside which is as rustic as the heart of mainland Spain.

Traditions and culture in Ibiza

The English invasion of Ibiza has been so great that the areas which many tourists will visit will feel more like their homeland, in terms of culture, than Spain. Expect everyone to speak English, serve Fosters and be able to hold a conversation about UK football teams.

However, there are some luxuries which the Mediteraneans will never give up, such as siestas. For this reason, between two and five in the afternoon do not be suprised if you venture out to find the shops shut.

One thing visitors should be aware of is that although Spanish is the official language of the island, all signs will be written in Balearic Catalan - just to keep holidaymakers on their toes.

Recommended in Ibiza

The first thing most holidaymakers will do when they get to Ibiza is head straight to the beach. And who can blame them, with miles of white sand awaiting them visitors would be well advised to slap on their sunscreen, grab their beach towel and go and bake in front of their ocean in a bid to achieve the kind of deep tan that only a week on a Spanish isle can give.

For the more adventurous, a range of watersport activities also take place throughout the day and there are a range of quaint cafes and trendy bars to grab an afternoon snack in.

Come evening time Ibiza really comes alive. Ibiza Town and San Antonio both start to get into gear from early evening and in the busy summer periods virtually all of the bars run drinks promotions, in a bid to entice some of the custom into their estabilshments.

One popular street with partygoers is the West End, which located near San Antonio centre is a wide street rammed with bars and restaurants.

The night life keeps going right into the small hours of the morning, ensuring that even the most hard core of partygoers' appetites are satiated.
