Hawaii Holiday
If you love surf and a relaxing lifestyle combined with shopping, cocktails and high-class hotels then Hawaii is just the place for you.
Sitting 2,500 miles from the mainland Hawaii can be accessed via direct flights from the US or other areas. A suggested stop-over in LA is recommended just so you can see the difference between the lifestyles of the two cities.
The weather year round is warm with winter temperatures above 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
Experiencing native Polynesian culture on Hawaii is a must for any visitor. The luau, is a traditional Hawaiian feast that includes foods such as kalua pig, poi, poke, and lomi salmon. Luau's are often held on special occasions and also feature the hula. The hula, of which tourists can take classes to learn, is a dance accompanying a chant or song. It involves the rapid movement of the hips sometimes in a circular motion.
While holidaying on the island music will be constant and drumming can often be heard while walking along the many beaches.
Hawaii is also a very superstitious island. There are many urban myths and legends that surround different parts of the eight islands and tourists can attend tours explaining the myths to them.
On Hawaii island itself there are rainforest and hiking trails situated not far from the main Waikiki Beach. In winter, large waves on Oahu's north shore turn the area into a surfing hotspot.
Travelling between islands can be done via plane, Aloha Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are both very reputable, however, boat trips are often more cost effective.
Cars offer a great way to travel your base island although rentals should be pre booked as the price charged is based on a supply/demand basis.
Being an American state the currency used is the dollar, and prices on the island are typical of any tourist destination. There are many great souvenirs to pick up include the well known Hawaiian flower shirts and grass skirts.
Tourists with a taste for surfing can sign up for classes at most tourist points, equipment is provided and surf boards can be hired by the day. At night there are numerous bars and clubs offering a scrumptious selection of cocktails and fresh juices. Eating on the islands can be as western as you like. Obviously as a US state the island does cater for the fast food lover in all of us, but being an island the seafood is fresh and exceptionally varied.
Overall, Hawaii is the perfect destination for couples, families, and romantic (but expensive) getaways. There are so many different things to see and do and the islands are too big to simply be enjoyed in a couple of days. Hawaii itself offers the perfect base for a tropical adventure at any time of year.
