Yoga holidays 'are becoming a lot more popular'

Top Tips

Yoga holidays are becoming increasingly popular with those who like to stay healthy and take a break at the same time, one expert has asserted.

According to responsibletravel.com, yoga holidays are a popular holistic holiday option and are on the up as people are increasingly becoming concerned with taking care of themselves mind and body-wise.

The comment follows on from figures published by the website this month on holistic and wellbeing holidays, which revealed that the company has seen a dramatic year on year increase in 'holistic and wellbeing' holidays of 121 per cent rise in 2008.

It seem that the depressing economic outlook is causing travellers to search for holiday options that help to renew their spiritual wellbeing in a bid to deal with the material stresses of modern day life in a tough recession.

Another way holidaymakers are seemingly seeking to alleviate their stresses is checking into an all-inclusive break, during which they do not have to worry about watching their pennies as everything is paid for.

According statistics published by Travelsupermarket.com on all inclusive holidays, given as an exclusive to the Daily Telegraph, 5 January 2009, booking enquiries for all-inclusive holidays were 17 per cent higher in the five days up to January 1st 2009 compared to the same period last year.

Furthermore, searches for self-catering breaks were up by 14 per cent and searches for cottage-style breaks were up 27 per cent, indicating the travellers are keen to self-cater in a bid to avoid splashing out on eating out every evening while on vacation. This may be to avoid over indulging calorie wise as much as it is to do with saving pennies.

Krissy Roe, spokesperson for responsibletravel.com, which hand picks inspiring holidays from all over the globe to give you a fantastic experience and make a real difference to local people and the environment, commented on the changing holiday habits of Brits.

She said: "The yoga holidays do particularly well. There's been an increase, more generally, in people taking up yoga classes in the UK and the chance to do an intensive week of yoga is quite appealing."

Ms Roe also gave holidaymakers some tips on booking these kind of breaks.

She concluded: "My advice would be to do your research before going and make sure you are going with a company that offers teachers who have some sort of certification and training in the area you are looking at.

"For example, if you are looking at yoga or pilates, make sure you are using a reputable company which uses reputable instructors."
