Most classic motorcycle insurers provide cover for motorbikes over twenty years old. The age varies from company to company, so be sure to check this out. In order to get the cheapest premiums, and in some cases to get insured at all, you will need to be able to limit the mileage you do on your classic bike. The agreed maximum annual mileage will usually be around the 5000 mark, depending from which company you decide to purchase your insurance. Needless to say, your classic motorbike should not be your main mode of transport, nor should it be used at track days or speed events. Essentially, the insurance is for classic bikes restricted to use for social, domestic and pleasure reasons (including shows and events).
As with most motor insurance, premiums will be lower if you store your classic bike in a locked, brick garage. In fact, some insurers will not cover you if it is stored anywhere else. Also, as with other types of insurance, various levels of cover are available, from basic to comprehensive. With more comprehensive policies, you will be able to insure your bike against its agreed value.
It is worth noting that classic motorbike insurance is for people who actually want to insure their bike as a classic. Just because a bike is old does not necessarily mean it should be insured as a classic.
