Selected insurance companies will extend regular motorbike insurance to cover usage as a courier service, but in the majority of cases, it may be worth taking out a specialised courier motorbike insurance policy. It can be quite difficult obtaining a competitive policy if you are a courier and even more so if your vehicle is a motorbike.
However, there are some really good motorbike insurance policies for couriers out there, so be sure to have a good look around! Policies will come in the three levels of cover associated with all types of motor insurance; third party, third party, fire and theft and fully comprehensive. Naturally, the more comprehensive the cover, the higher the premiums of the policy. However, fully comprehensive cover tends to offer some really useful extras such as goods in transit insurance. This is naturally invaluable insurance for a courier, protecting you financially against the loss, damage or theft of any goods you are delivering whilst you are in transit. Public/Employer’s liability is also an important extra, which protects you financially against any legal costs which come as a result of having an accident on your motorbike. Motorcycle courier insurance schemes may also include use in European countries which could be handy if you’re looking to drive your bike on the continent.
If you are a company with a fleet of motorcycles which are used by couriers, it may be worth taking out a multi-bike policy which usually works out cheaper than buying a single policy for each motorbike that you want to get insured. Also, motorbike courier insurance can be bought on a “pay as you go” basis, meaning the vans will not be costing you in insurance premiums whilst sat doing nothing on the forecourt.
