Discount Bike Insurance

As with many insurance products, there are a few ways to get yourself a discount on the cost of your policy, some of which are outlined here.

If you’re buying a new motorbike/scooter, manufacturers often offer free insurance cover for the first year, or, at the very least, a discounted policy. It may well be worth taking this offer up.

If you have more than one bike, rather than insuring each bike with their own individual cover, it will probably be a lot cheaper to purchase a multi-bike plan and get all the bikes insured on the same policy. The additions to your premium for doing this will be minimal. On the same token, it is worth seeing if your company offers a joint policy for your motorbike and your car. You may well receive a discount for doing this.

When purchasing your bike insurance, make sure you choose as high an excess as you can afford to pay should you need to make a claim, as this will earn you a discount.

Do make sure there are no unnecessary extras on your policy. For example, if you ride your bike alone, you do not need a policy with guest passenger liability. If your motorbike is that bit older (bearing in mind motorbikes decrease in value rapidly) it may not be worth paying for fully comprehensive cover as, should your bike be damaged, insurers will only pay out the current market value of your bike. In this case, third party fire and theft cover usually suffices, and has lower priced premiums.

Don’t forget one of the simplest ways to save is to have a shop around to find a policy that not only meets your needs, but is also at an affordable price. Don’t forget that the majority of insurers will offer you a discount for simply purchasing your policy online!

You will also receive discounts for a good no claims history, and for storing your bike in a locked garage.
