One of the most common complaints from young drivers is about the high cost of their car insurance. According to the National Safety Council, drivers between 16 and 17 years old are three times more likely to be killed in a traffic accident than people between 25 and 64. Given that car insurance premiums are determined by risk assessments of the individual driver, the statistics suggest that young drivers are more likely to make a claim, therefore their insurance premiums are higher.

The very fact that these companies are putting these drivers on to the insurance market means that they are often able to negotiate cheaper prices for young drivers. Such companies also specialise in providing young driver insurance as they can offer more flexible payment options, which lends itself to young drivers.
Remember, however, that because there are companies which specialise in young drivers� car insurance, does not mean that they are necessarily going to be cheaper. As with all types of insurance, be sure to shop around to get an affordable quote with an adequate level of cover which meets your needs.
