When purchasing annual travel insurance for your family, you will have to check the eldest permitted age of a child as this varies from company to company. Some state that as soon as the child/dependant turns 18 years old they are considered an adult and therefore not covered in the family policy so have to take out a single policy in their own name. Other family travel insurers however, will allow the child/dependant to stay on the family policy up until the age of 24 years if they are still in full time education.
In terms of the policy itself, all members of the family are covered for medical expenses, possessions, loss of documents, cancellation/curtailment of the holiday and reimbursement of costs. Many insurers will cover even the most adventurous of families, with winter sports cover often thrown in as standard. So kids can go scuba diving, white water rafting or snowboarding, with parents being able to sit back and relax, safe in the knowledge that they’re fully insured!
