Adele's Bond theme tops iTunes

By Mark Fordham

The new James Bond theme tune from Adele - Skyfall - has topped the iTunes chart just hours after being released in the early hours of Friday (October 4th).

It reached number one within ten hours of being released and has overtaken last week's top song Gangnam Style.

The full single was released at 00:07 BST following a 90-second clip that was supposedly leaked online earlier this week.

Skyfall is the 23rd Bond film and Daniel Craig's third outing as the secret agent.

It is due to be released in the UK on October 26th.

Co-writer Paul Epworth told BBC Radio 6 Music that the song was intended to echo the narrative of the film and Bond's relationship to the country and MI6.

"The [Bond theme] songs seem to fall into groups, in terms of subject matter. Some of them have a romanticism to them and some of them are very much about the narrative," he continued.
