Claims culture findings could impact motorists

UK motoring is likely to be impacted by new findings regarding car insurance claims in the nation.

Direct Line has welcomed the results of the Transport Select Committee's (TSC's) report, which suggested premium inflation is escalating thanks to a compensation culture resulting in an increase in whiplash claims.

As a result of the investigation, the TSC has called on the government to introduce a higher threshold regarding the payment of this money - and the insurance company believes such action is required to prevent claims culture vultures benefitting any longer.

Tom Woolgrove, managing director of personal lines at Direct Line - which began life in 1985 - said: "We have been calling for a review of whiplash claims for many years now and it is high time that the UK's compensation culture had a rude awakening."

Mr Woolgrove added a common sense approach - whereby people put forward more conclusive proof of injury and associated loss - is what is required.
