David Cameron sticks by NHS reforms

By Martin Fell

David Cameron has reiterated his support for the Health and Social Care Bill, which will result in major changes to how the NHS is run.

Labour leader Ed Miliband has condemned the bill, stating that it would spell "disaster" for the NHS.

He accused the coalition government of wasting billions on a bill that should never make it through parliament.

Mr Miliband asked MPs: "Why won't he just give up?"

However, Mr Cameron rebuked that Labour, which originally supported the reform proposals, were simply being opportunistic.

"They are not in favour of the money, they are not in favour of the reform - they are just a bunch of opportunists," he exclaimed.

The bill is set to return to the House of Lords and health secretary Andrew Lansley has been holding talks with rebel peers in the hope that the reforms make it through the house unscathed.
