Noel and Liam Gallagher among NME nominees

By Neal Wallace

Noel and Liam Gallagher are among the people nominated for this year's NME Awards.

However, the awards they are up for are rather different - Noel has been given nods for best solo artist and best album, while his brother and former bandmate is nominated for villain of the year.

He faces competition from David Cameron, Nick Clegg, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.

Liam's band Beady Eye, who formed after Oasis split in 2009, are up for worst band at the ceremony, along with One Direction, Muse and Coldplay.

PJ Harvey's Let England Shake will be pitted against The Horrors, The Vaccines and Arctic Monkeys for album of the year.

It has already been revealed that Noel will take up this year's Godlike Genius award, while he is also nominated for hero of the year, alongside Noel Fielding, Alex Turner, Matt Bellamy and Dave Grohl.

Previous winners of the Godlike Genius gong have included Paul Weller, The Clash and New Order.
