Over-50s 'enjoying gap years'
An increasing number of people over the age of 50 are jumping on UK flights to enjoy gap years abroad, it has been suggested.Liz Harper, head of marketing and digital editor at Footprint Travel Guides - which produced its first book in 1924 - noted there has been a significant rise in the amount of individuals in this age range opting for such a getaway.
The industry expert observed this demographic appears to be after more authentic experiences from their vacations, with many holidaymakers keen to get up close and personal with real wildlife.
She stated: "These people really want to see the world and experience new cultures and to witness things first hand."
While individuals over 50 may have previously opted for a Spanish villa in which to relax and unwind, they are now more likely to travel around in a touring motorhome and try to take in as much of what the world has to offer as possible.
