Poll: 29% of parents to take kids out of school for holiday

Some 29 per cent of parents are planning term-time holidays as they seek the best travel deals.

This is according to research by LV=, which found that 57 per cent of those doing so have pointed to cost as the biggest factor behind the decision.

A total of 66 per cent are targeting the April to July period for a break and people can expect to get a reduction of up to 46 per cent by going away then.

Selwyn Fernandes, managing director of LV= travel insurance, said: "The difference in price for taking a trip during the school holidays and during term-time is huge."

In 2004, only seven per cent admitted taking kids out of school to holiday, but the figure has now risen to 21 per cent.

Part of the reason for this could be the current economic environment, as Britons may not be able to afford the prices in-season.
