Road users urged to belt up for Valentine's Day

Car drivers in the UK should look after their loved ones this Valentine's Day and encourage them to use their seatbelt properly.

This is according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), which has urged road users and their passengers to challenge those in the vehicle who have failed to buckle up.

The organisation explained 19 per cent of people admit to not fastening in correctly when in the back seat, while nine per cent say the same for front-seat riding.

In addition, the road safety charity suggested those between the ages of 17 and 34 may be the least likely to wear their seatbelt, with males under the age of 30 the worst offenders when it comes to buckling up in the back.

Neil Greig, director of policy at IAM - a group that also offers practical driving programmes - noted everybody should be looking out for the ones they love this Valentine's Day, adding: "There's no greater passion killer than a car crash. Belt up in the front and the back."

Valentines day is a good time for taking it slow? No? I'll get my coat. Seriously though, speeding is stupid.
