Roberto Mancini calls for further signings at Manchester City

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has said that he needs to strengthen his squad if his side are to stand a chance of winning the Champions League.

The Italian, whose side have made a strong start to their Premier League defence, says he feels the upcoming transfer window could decide how much continental success can be brought to the Etihad Stadium.

His side failed to progress past the group stage last season and he says that he needs to bring in players with proven track records in European football.

“I think we need to improve for the Champions League," he said.

"If we do a good job in the last week we can arrive in the [Champions League] final. That should be our target."

So far, only Jack Rodwell has been recruited by City, but Mancini says other names are on the wanted list.

“If we want to improve, we need to do this for the Champions League. We need to do other things [in the transfer window]," he said.

He is believed to still be interested in long-term targets Javi Martinez and Danielle De Rossi.

However, City have yet to reach any agreement with Athletic Bilbao on a fee for Martinez and De Rossi ruled out a move from Roma earlier on this week.
