Sainsbury's to create 15,000 Christmas jobs

Supermarket group Sainsbury's has announced plans to create 15,000 UK jobs ahead of the busy Christmas trading period this year.

The company also said that around 2,000 of these temporary roles would become permanent as it opens new stores and extends existing ones.

Roles will be offered in a variety of areas, from shop floor jobs like check-out operation and customer services to jobs in the warehouse helping the online delivery teams.

Interested candidates are being invited to apply for the seasonal vacancies now, with employment starting in late November.

Gwyn Burr, customer service and colleague director at Sainsbury's, said: "Christmas is the busiest time of year in our stores, so the work is fast-paced, varied and rewarding."

The supermarket has committed itself to creating 50,000 new jobs by 2020 and has already taken on 6,000 members of staff in the last 12 months.

It has more than 1,000 stores across the country, employing 150,000 people in total.
