Snow causes flight disruption at Heathrow
The current wintry conditions have caused havoc at Heathrow Airport and have resulted in the travel hub cancelling many UK flights.Around one-third of journeys were axed today (February 6th) as ice and sludge remains at the facility following a weekend of heavy snowfall.
A spokesman for Heathrow - which plays host to around 89 airlines and serves 176 destinations - explained about 850 of the usual 1,231 flights had been scheduled to go ahead for today, which followed yesterday's cancellation of more than half of all air trips.
The news could result in many customers seeking compensation for their distress or having to book alternative flights in order to make their journeys.
Passengers expressed their anger at the turn of events and one, Philippa Britton, said she found it "unbelievable" as the runways appeared clear, adding: "On the flight into London lots of people were astonished that so many flights had been cancelled."
