Teleworking reduces staff turnover

By Chris Malone

Businesses that wish to improve staff turnover rates should consider allowing employees to work from home, it has been claimed.

According to the Telework Association, firms that take advantage of home-working are repaid in loyalty from workers.

Development director Shirley Borrett explained that staff left to look after their own affairs tend to have healthy relationships with their bosses and reward the trust shown in them with hard work and long service.

"If an employee is trusted to work at home, then they tend to have a good relationship with their manager and they value both that trust and the practical ability to fit work around their lives," she explained.

This leads to greater loyalty within the organisation and means that the company will see a lower turnover rate.

With people less likely to leave, it saves firms the costs associated with recruitment and training.

Dymo recently published the results of a survey which showed that homeworkers are also more productive than their office-based counterparts and spend less time sending personal emails and browsing the internet.
