Forgetful men putting relationships at risk

A large number of men are missing out on gaining brownie points from their dating relationships because of their tendency to forget or not take in even the simplest pieces of information.

Research from 2,000 males from the Perfume Shop has found that many men struggle to remember their partner's date of birth, let alone what their favourite scent is.

One in ten of the respondents did not know the date on which their girlfriend was born, while a third had no idea what their choice of perfume would be.

The lack of memory continued into physical features, with eight per cent of the men not knowing the natural hair colour of their partner and 12 per cent not paying any attention to the colour of their eyes.

Spokeswoman Michelle D'vaz said: "The basic details like date of birth and hair colour are what you expect your partner to know about you, but it seems many men don't.

"Noticing these little details can win men some major brownie points with their other half as it shows they pay attention, so it's worth putting in the extra effort to make sure you know everything."

Meanwhile, some men have put their foot in it by making the wrong purchases because of their lack of knowledge and this has led them to start on the dating path from fresh again.

Almost one in ten men have been dumped because of their failure to identify the everyday details of their other halves.

Meanwhile, 27 per cent of respondents had attempted to carry out a good deed by buying their partners an item of clothing, only to discover when getting home that it was the wrong size.

Over six in ten openly admitted that men as a breed are poor at remembering the smallest things about their girlfriends and that more needs to be done to ensure that this fault is corrected.

Furthermore, some research has stated that men are drawn to different parts of a woman, depending on the type of relationship they are after.

Males looking for a one-night date will rate a female's body as the most important attribute, while those seeking a longer-term partner will be wanting a woman with a pretty face.

However, researchers at the University of Iowa have found the complete opposite through their study, determining that emotional stability and mutual attraction were the most essential.

This is in stark contrast to men of the past who valued chastity far more importantly than intelligence.

Christine Whelan, head of the study and author of 'Marry Smart: The Intelligent Woman's Guide to True Love' said: "This is a generation of men who has grown up with educated women as their mothers, teachers, doctors, and role models.

"And in tough economic times, sharing the financial burden with a spouse takes the burden off these guys to be the sole provider."
