Getting a Good Haircut
Hair care doesn’t just mean having a quick trim every now and again. Nor does it mean that you have to add lots of different concoctions to it to make it healthy. There are lots of things that can be done to make it shine. Often the solution lies on the inside as well as how it is treated on the outside.
Help from the inside
If you want your hair to get a good start you must feed it well, that means adding lots of protein and essential fatty acids that will help to strengthen it as it grows. Supplements such as silica and kelp will help to increase the rate at which it grows too. Generally speaking if you want to get glossy hair you must have a healthy well balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts and oily fish. A simple multivitamin and mineral supplement is enough.
Help from the outside
To be able take care of your hair the way you want, it is best to treat it gently not brushing it too hard and rubbing it dry when it is wet will save you split ends and damage to the hair shaft. Not washing with shampoos and conditioners that are too harsh or applying heavy hair products will protect it too. As will using a heat protector when you have to blow dry or straighten it.
Haircut Rules
When it comes to getting a good hair cut you must follow a few basic rules:
Choose a style - If you are getting a different style cut then it is wise to have an idea of what you want before you go in to see a hairdresser. Book an appointment with them and look through some magazines, even take in a few cuttings. A good hairdresser will be able to tell you immediately what will suit you and whether you are being realistic with the style that you are looking for. Remember that an over ambitious cut will take time out of your schedule, so make sure you have the time to manage it. Hair salons will always make your hair look great but make sure it is something that you will be able to maintain at home.
Follow word of mouth – If you haven’t been to a hairdresser before you may be a little intimidated to do so. When it comes to choosing a hairdresser, do your research and usually word of mouth is the best way. If you see a person with a style that you like, ask them where they had it cut. When you find a hairdresser don’t be afraid to see what their work is like and book a consultation.
Pick their brains – When you go for a consultation, it is your chance to iron out any concerns that you may have about your new style. Any good hairdresser will not mind putting your mind at rest, regardless of how much the hair cut will cost you. Sometimes it is hard to put across what you want, so make sure they understand. Don’t forget to address what you don’t like about your hair too.
Don’t feel pressured – Often it is easy to get pressured into having a style that you don’t want. You mustn’t forget that hairdressing is a business and they will suggest lots of things which may bump up the price of your haircut. For example if they add colour or highlights, or even a deep conditioning treatment. If this is something that you don’t want, make it clear. If you are not ready to trust a total stranger with your hair, wait until you know how they perform before you become more adventurous.
Paying through the nose – Getting a good hair cut doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag. If you are ready to put your trust into a novice then you could get a really cheap haircut. All the major hairdressers have training academies that allow trainees to practice on people. If you want to do this then it might be the best decision you make. Bear in mind it could go wrong sometimes; although this is rare because all students work under supervision. Most hairdressers will place adverts in their windows for models, so if this is something that you want to consider there is no shortage of budget hair cuts to be had.
