Planning Your Wedding
All Your Wedding Needs
From wedding stationary to wedding dresses and even wedding night lingerie, websites such as Confetti and hitched try to answer all your questions (and sell you all the things you will need) before your wedding. They'll even spell out the role of the father of the groom, teach the best man some clean jokes and spell out the importance of cleaning your nails before you swap rings.Wedding Lists Online
With guests and family living all over the country - or throughout the world - it is becoming common to have an online wedding list: extremely useful and efficient.Proudly called "most popular list in the country," John Lewis offers a first-rate service with half-a-million gifts to choose from. There's the added advantage that as well as buying online or over the phone, your guests can visit a John Lewis store and select their gift in person. And the happy couple can track what has and hasn't been bought on the list in the run-up to the big day.
Similarly, Marks and Spencers' Gift Registry allows you to select from a wide range of presents. You can even create the list online. This website requires slightly more computer know-how from the couple receiving the gifts (who have to set up the list), than from their family and friends, who simply have to log-in and spend.
Companies that lack the high street presence of those leading stores can still offer a huge range of gifts and services. You might prefer their online expertise:
Rather than china, crockery and garden furniture, the modern gift list may opt for the more prosaic (but useful) gift of... money. This site will can even help enable your friends chip in to pay for your honeymoon, for example (£95 for a flight upgrade for example, or £15 for breakfast in bed) or even a car (£80 per wheel, £5 for engine oil):
Unusual Places To Get Married
Our Wedding Guide (www.uknetguide.co.uk/Lifestyle_and_Leisure/Weddings/) is particularly useful when planning a civil wedding in an unusual venue in the UK. Getting Married Abroad
This is more straightforward than it used to be. Specialist travel operators offer all-inclusive packages to exotic locations or, thanks to the Internet, you can do the research, planning and booking yourself. The ceremony should be binding in the UK: there is no need when you return to register your marriage with the Register Office. Your local certificates should be enough, but it is advisable to check with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, or the British Embassy in the country you get married in.
Popular exotic locations include Antigua (you can start arrangements for the ceremony as soon as you land) and the Seychelles (it takes up to two months in advance to process the documentation).
Remember to bring all the necessary documentation (usually original copies of your Birth Certificates and documentation regarding any previous marriage). Check with the tourist board before you fly.
Put your feet up and rely on an experienced travel company:
The Presidential Suite has been renamed the John & Yoko Suite after the Beatle's famous honeymoon 'Bed-In'. Now you can get married there, as well as having a more private honeymoon:
Disney resorts can offer more than a honeymoon destination - you can get married there too:
You can get a wedding licence in Las Vegas simply by turning up at the Marriage Licence Bureau. Britney Spears famously got married at the celebrated 'Little White Wedding Chapel' (then thought better of it) which has also hosted weddings for Joan Collins, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. You can also get married in the Tunnel of Vows – the world’s first drive-through wedding. If your guests can't make it for the ceremony, they can log on and watch via a special webcam:
Vegas' other celebrity wedding venue (Bob Geldof and Paula Yates, Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford, Micky Rooney and Ava Gardner - and each of his subsequent seven brides!) is the Little Church of the West. Reservations can be made online with packages starting at $199:
