Honda Creates 700 Swindon Jobs
Honda is to create up to 700 new jobs in Swindon.
Honda's Swindon plant will take in an extra 700 people to increase production make the workforce 4,900 people strong.
The new hires are intended to increase output to 250,000 cars per year from the current 190,000.
Derek Simpson, general secretary of the union Amicus said to the BBC that the expansion marks a turning point in the mentality that car companies must move abroad to be profitable.
The Swindon expansion is part of a project designed to meet demand for the Civic's three and four door model cars.
In 2006, the Swindon plant celebrated its 20th anniversary of operation and has invested £1.33 billion in the operation since it opened its doors.
