Bargain Hunting Brits Seduced By Offers

Top Tips

Some 62 per cent of shoppers say they cannot resist a bargain even if it something they do not really need, according to a new survey.

Figures from financial provider Alliance & Leicester found that the temptation of 'buy-one-get-one-free' is too much for almost half of all consumers who confess to ending up buying more than they need.

A rise in cut-price shops and special offers has fuelled this delight in a good deal but while consumers are needlessly spending, one in three say they cannot afford to put any money into savings.

"While it is great for consumers to now have the choice to buy 'more for less', our research has found that we're just buying more!" said Mike Woodward, savings manager Alliance & Leicester.

"Instead of buying the same amount as we did before and saving money, we're now buying things that we don't need, just because it seems like a good deal. Buying items at a reduced price isn't translating into physically putting more money away each month."
