Guardian Unlimited

Comment: Plenty of commentary and reportage as you would expect from The Guardian. A substantial round-up on the teams competing plus plenty of extra information on the British challengers from England and Ireland. Not heavy on past WC's or qualifying rounds, but if the finals themselves are your focus, you might not miss it.

KOWOC

Comment: The official site of the Korean Organising Committee for the 2002 WC. Plenty of local information both of an official nature relating to the event and some more general information on Korea itself plus travellers tips such as detailed venue information and how to get there.

SportsLine World Cup 2002

Comment: Benefiting from a link with CBS this site presents a lot of good news stories. It also has a very solid collection of archive information from the qualifying rounds and previous World Cup events. Coming out of the US it does tend to focus on the North American team(s).

World Soccer

Comment: This is the online version of the World Soccer magazine and has plenty of good news reporting as a result. Some player coverage and a section covering the finals fixtures and venues is also included. Not so strong on the history of previous WC's however.

rsdjapan

Comment: Good local content in this site. Some of the most detailed information and opinions on the fixtures and the venues they will be played in. Many good stories on local aspects of the event and if you were lucky enough to be doing the trip to Japan this site would definitely have you sorted.

ESPN Soccernet

Comment: Plenty of good news reporting on the stories affecting the World Cup finals, as you would expect from the ESPN network. Balanced coverage of all the qualifying confederations and the various issues faced by each of the teams. Some audio coverage available if you get tired of reading.

Sports Illustrated 2002 World Cup

Comment: A site with some solid football news reporting courtesy of Sports Illustrated's link with CNN. Focused on the US as you might expect, though still a lot of good fixture information, background on the qualifying rounds and quality archival information from past World Cups.

World Cup Info

Comment: A good amount of information on this site and it's all very well presented. On the downside, no news coverage, a limited amount of commentary in some areas and you can't select details of a particular player. The site does have some very nice downloadable files for wallpaper and desktop World Cup-mania.

World Soccer News

Comment: This site has a strong news reporting capacity and will be able to provide realtime scoring information during the matches. Unfortunately it doesn't cover much of the historic content of World Cup's or any team or player information of the countries on their way to Asia.

Independent World Cup 2002

Comment: Some original news reporting and a good wrap-up of the British teams competing earn this site its points. On the downside there is not a lot of information available about the fixtures or the history of the World Cup in general. Very focussed on the English and Irish campaigns as you might expect.
