Shillibeers restaurant and bar is a bit of a London hideaway - actually a big, bright space retrofitted into a former omnibus depot - but surrounded by industrial warehouses so it feels more like parts of Manhattan than London. Shillibeers workmanlike roots are honoured in its décor, with steel columns, exposed brick walls, riveted ceiling, but softened with lots of wood flooring, white table cloths, scads of plants beyond the huge windows. The effect is both stylish and relaxed. The menus change frequently, and include modern European dishes like starter of duck and juniper terrine with sweet balsamic vinegar, main course of pan-fried fillet of seabass with linguine, lemon butter sauce and leeks, and dessert of hot chocolate fondant with nutmeg cream. Shillibeers' wine list changes frequently too, reflecting great bottles from all over the globe.
