Tazio @ Exedra may have begun its life a few hundred years ago as a papal granary, but then, Roman buildings tend to gain grandeur as they age. Now it appears as a bar, gallery, champagnerie and restaurant within one of the most luxurious of Roman hotels, a veritable palace, with a view of the Piazza della Repubblica. The 'Tazio' of the title honours Tazio Secchiaroli, famous photographic chronicler of La Dolce Vita of the '50s and '60s and the original paparazzo. Stylish? We'd say si. With tall ceilings, deep reds and purples and gleaming golds, dazzling lighting, and a central location, Tazio is a fantastic place for romantic dinners and fabulous meals with friends. The menu features slow-food care and preparation for a dynamic clientele. Dishes include big or small plate of raw, steamed, tempura'd or grilled fish, choice of two spaghettis with many sauces, like classic meat ragu or scallops and dill, grilled fillet of beef, tiramisu, and marmalade tart. Good wines and sexy vibe.
