Market Restaurant, at the core of Manchester's groovy Northern Quarter scene, was an early pioneer of this exciting area and now one of its keystones. Small and friendly, cosy, homely and reasonably-priced it may be, but chef Mary-Rose Edgecombe is serious about local, seasonal sourcing and just great British food. The Market Restaurant has been Manchester Restaurant of the Year, and quite right. Menus change every five to six weeks. New signature pudding: Manchester Pavlova - inspired by Manchester Tart -- lemon-scented pastry, custard cream, toasted coconut and raspberry sauce with a cherry on top. While the wine list is very, very good, the beer list is outstanding. Husband Peter is gregarious front-of-house.
Average Price per person: £25-£34 / €35-€49
