Mandaloun, located in Cheechurch Lane in Aldgate, is an urbanised, Londonised traditional Lebanese restaurant executed with verve. Run by the Barakat family, who have been restaurateurs in both Lebanon and the UK since the 1930s, this stylish and cavernous enclave attracts a cosmopolitan city crowd. Decorated with moody and mysterious lamps, exposed brick walls, modern mosaic flooring and embellished vintage furniture, the restaurant's dining room is a discreet yet vibrant venue which is popular for group dining. Signature dishes from the Mandaloun menu include the lamb couscous cooked in a traditional Moroccan sauce served with vegetables, and the sweet rice pudding flavoured with rose water and topped with crushed pistachios for dessert.
